I am always approached with the question of, "what is worth spending a little extra money on, and what isn't?" Here are a few things that are worth the extra money:

The Entryway:

Although often overlooked, your entryway is the first thing that your guests see as they enter an event and it is a great way to set the mood for your event. The entryway does not need a lot of decor though, so a little can go a long way.

The Venue:

When you choose to get married sets the scene for your wedding, whether it is in the woods for those who likes outdoors, or at a special place where the bride and groom fell in love, or simply a beautiful reception center that will set a great background for your event. Your venue can offer you a lot to work with.

Lighting:

Lighting has a dramatic effect on the mood of your event. Harsh light changes the quality of you pictures and may cause harsh tones on your decor. The right lighting can really add to your decor. At Castle Manor, all of our lights are ran on dimmers so you can choose your level of lighting. Adding twinkle or gobo lights can also be a great option.

A Lounge Area:

Having a place for your guests to sit and mingle either during dance breaks, or just in between the activities of your reception. Whether you simply use some reception chairs or look into renting couches, it is a perfect addition to your event.

Splurging on a few things can really make an event memorable for not only the bride and groom, but for the guests as well.

For some, winter may be a difficult time of year to get married. Many winter brides are worried about the weather and the havoc it may cause on the scenery. Well for those who live in Cache Valley, you are well aware of the snow that we have been receiving. As I drove into work today, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to take a picture to show all of the prospective winter brides how beautiful Castle Manor is even during the winter. Check it out:

Ceremony Procedure

When planning a ceremony, many people do not know the specifics of how the ceremony should be conducted. Although I will go over the basic in this post, keep in mind that the priest, minister, bishop, or other officiant can help you in knowing the specifics. Also, if you are having your ceremony at a event center, the manager/event planner can also advise you!

Another helpful hint is to do a rehearsal before your wedding day. It never hurts to do a practice run through to be prepared. Also, when using any children in the ceremony, it is important for them to practice and understand the procedure because unfortunately children are unpredictable.

The Groom- it is customary for the groom to enter first and be at the front by the officiator before the wedding march begins. When looking at the officiator, the groom should be on the right side.

Groomsmen- typically the groomsmen meet up with the bridesmaids at the rear portion of the aisle or they can also already be up in the front by the groom.

Bridesmaids- typically walk down the aisle with the groomsmen. If there is a stair entrance to the ceremony isle, many will have the down the stairs before the bride. Others prefer to only have the bride walk down the stairs to create a grand entrance.

Others- the flower girl and ring bearer follow the bridesmaids.

The Bride- The bride ALWAYS comes last, typically being escorted by her father. At the front where the officiator and the wedding party stands, the bride is "given" to the groom from her father. She then hands her bouquet to the maid of honor.

During the Ceremony- the couple should stand facing each other, some do so while holding hands. The vows will be said when the officiator directs them to do so. The officiator will also lead the bride and groom to exchange rings at the appropriate time.

After the ceremony ends, many groups will take this time for the bride and groom to walk down the aisle to a specified location when the guests can congratulate the bride and groom.

Shopping for YOUR wedding gown

Design. When shopping for a wedding gown, it is important that you first start by looking at other dresses to get ideas of what you want or don't want in your wedding gown. This will help you when you meet with various consultants to narrow down your search of a dress.
Budget. Make sure that you have your budget in mind for your gown. Tell your consultant how much you would like to spend on your dress so that they can narrow their search to stay within your budget.
Style. Match your dress to your body type, whether it is a-line, princess, mermaid, ball gown, or empire.
Fabric. From chiffon to lace and satin to taetta, the type of fabric you choose can change the style of you dress drastically. What do you prefer?
Time. Give yourself enough time so that if your dress needs any alterations, it can be done in enough time before you take your pre-bridal photos.
Accessories. Things that you need besides your gown: headpiece (can be a veil, hat, hair pin, or even a tiara), bridal shoes, garter, and if you are a winter bride consider a jacket or wrap.

Packing a little ahead of time may be a good idea- the last couple days before you get married may be very busy (finishing up last minute things or entertaining visiting family/friends).

Marriage Licenses

What to know when getting you marriage license:

1. The marriage license is valid for 30 days and can be used anywhere in the state of Utah. Although you have to wait until 30 days before your wedding day, do not put it off past that, it is better to be prepared.

2. You must go to the clerks office of your local county offices.

3. Both you and your fiance must be in attendance to receive one.

4. Bring with you a for of I.D. (this can be a drivers license, military ID, birth certificate, or passport).

5. Provide you SSN- it may be helpful to have your Social Security Card with you.

6. Provide full names, permanent address, date and place of birth, birthplace of mother and father.

7. If this is not your first marriage, make sure you know the dates when all previous marriage divorces were final. If the previous marriage ended with death, provide the date of the spouses death.

8. The marriage license fee is $50.00- make sure you have this with you.

9. Once you get your marriage license, make sure that you keep it in a safe place.

10. Make sure you have your marriage license with you on your wedding day!!!

Although requirements may vary, this list will help you while preparing to get your marriage license.

Although traditions change, there are some traditions that always stay the same. When talking about weddings, this is definitely the case!

Here is a refresher course on what side is responsible for what.

Our South Gazebo Grounds offers a perfect location for an outside ceremony. The gazebo is a beautiful focal point for the bride and groom to be married under.

For the brides who want to walk down stairs to the isle way, there are stairs available. For the other type of bride who would prefer to avoid the steps there is a door entrance to the isle way as well.

The south grounds can accommodate for as many as 200-250 guests for a ceremony and as many as 400 guest for a reception.

Cache Valley Reception Center

Chapel Area:

The Chapel area is the largest area on our premises.This area offers a beautiful scenery with the spiral staircase, the chandelier, and the vaulted ceilings.

Although this room can easily accommodate 450 plus people with the use of the balcony, we have groups as small as 50 guests use this room as well. So if you looking to have a smaller group of guests but would like to do it in this area, don't be overwhelmed with the size. Just ask us how to fix your group in this room. We have several ways to make the Chapel area accommodate to any group size.

This beautiful area is great for weddings, receptions, corporate events, dances, reuniuns, quincenearea's, and and all other events.

Reception Hall

North Room

The North Room is the smallest area that we offer in our in our building. Although this is our smallest room, it can still accommodate for up to 110 people for seated dining.

This room is a wonderful option for luncheons and smaller receptions.

For receptions, we recommend having no more than six tables set up. A key thing to remember about receptions is that all of your guests will not be seated at once. Having six tables will allow 48 people to be seated at once.

Second Floor Area

At Castle Manor we have three different inside rooms available for rent. A popular room is the second floor. This room accomodates from 160-180 guests for seated dining. For receptions, we recommend anywhere from 8-15 tables.

With the Second Floor, you can have access to the balcony, which can be a fun place to put more reception table or simply just put coctail tables out for your guest to mingle and eat their refreshments outside.

The balcony on the second floor makes this room a great option for those who want to have an indoor and outdoor event at no additional cost!

Cache Valley Clash MMA

As many of you have heard, we just recently had the first MMA fight in Cache Valley hosted at our venue. Although this is definitely not our typical event, we are truly a reception and EVENT center!

This event ended up selling out! Here are a couple of pictures of some crazy people who still watched the fight from the windows outside in 20 degree weather!

We have also hosted many other types of events at our location including: High School and community dances, anniversary parties, corporate events, Bridal Fairs, and now MMA Fights.

Here at Castle Manor we include a basic linen for every table.

The linens that are included in the rental price are a standard square which are 85x85 and they come in black, white, ivory, brown, or red. If you would like a different color, shape, or a special material (satin, crushed, etc.), we have several other tablecloths to choose from for an additional cost.

With every rental at Castle Manor, we include in the price:

All of your audio/video needs (a TV or projector for a wedding slideshow, microphone, and we have a built in sound system which can run off a computer, iPod, or a CD)
Setup and take-down. Anything that is included in your rental, and any upgrades you add, are set up for you when you come to your event (if you add sashes to your rental, we will also tie them on the chair for you)! At the end of the night you take what is yours home and we do the tear down and cleanup!
All of the tables (there is no limit), basic chairs, and basic linens are also included in every rental!

What do we mean by basic chairs? The basic chairs are the "white samsonite" chairs as shown below. If you would like to upgrade to any other chairs, it is only $1 more per chair.
What do we mean by basic linens? The linens that are included in the rental price are 85x85 square linen that come in black, white, ivory, brown, or red. If you would like a different color, or a special material, we have several to choose from for an additional cost.

For those who want to do their food by themselves, we have options for that as well! At Castle Manor, we have four options for how you do your food:

Use one of our preferred caterers. The two preferred caterers we have are Culinary Concept and USU Catering, and they do a great job!
Use any licensed caterer.
Bring in anything that is 100% ready-to-eat bought food from a restaurant or grocery store.
Rent our "commercial-grade kitchen" and prepare it on-site. You must have at least one person with a food handlers permit there at all times.

If you would like to do it yourself, we do have dishware, serving trays, punch and chocolate fountains, etc. available to rent!

With every rental we include a choice of a backdrop. The Roman Arch, Colonial Arch, and the Iron Gate arch are included in the rental price. The other four backdrops can be added to your rental for only $25 more, which is only 10-25% of the original price.

We also have a large number of different vases, centerpiece options (including flowers), chandeliers, and other backdrop accessories!

October 22nd wedding presented a Shabby Chic style to their exciting day.

This was an outside wedding with an inside luncheon and reception.

The bride wanted an outside wedding.

This was a risky thing in to plan on being the end of October in Cache Valley.

It ended up being a beautiful day!

Bridal Registries

An easy thing to forget once you are engaged is bridal registries. Here are a couple key things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure you register before your invitations are finalized. Putting where you are registered on your invitations is really the only way to get the word out.

2. Register before your bridal showers. Although a lot of bridal showers already have a theme, having registered a couple different types of locations will help them get you exactly what you want.

3. There is no harm in registering at several locations, but keep in mind that this increases your chance for getting duplicates of the same type of gift!

Contemporary Cake

Cake or No Cake?

It is becoming a common occurrence for weddings to ditch the cake and replace it with something different! If you are interested in doing something more contemporary and shy away from the traditional wedding cake, here are some other options to consider:

Cupcakes: Cupcakes can be used to add to a small version of a cake or they can be arranged and frosted together to make a unique design. Cupcakes are also easy to make into tiered levels for an added dimension.

Sweets and treats: Just like cupcakes, you can also use brownies, cream puffs, éclairs, or cookies. This is not only a wonderful alternative in flavor, but it will be a surprise treat for your guests.

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate: You can completely replace your cake with a beautiful chocolate fountain and many treats that are ready to tip. You could also have a tower of pre-dipped chocolate treats.

Your wedding cake can say a lot about your personality- express yourself!

Top Five Tips when planning your Wedding Food:

Establish a budget.

Establishing you budget first will allow you to better clarify choices. For brides that want to do a more inexpensive reception food, you can simple serve cake and punch or do a candy bar. Others may want to serve a meal at their reception instead. Establishing a budget first allows you to shift through your preliminary options.

Diversity in your food.

Diversity in color, options, and ethnicity should all be considered. Don’t be afraid to cross cultures in your food options. Consider the color/esthetic side of your food; all foods can create a beautiful presentation when done right. Also take into consideration any special food needs that your guests might have.

Write down the steps of the preparation of the food.

If you are using a caterer you can omit this step. Otherwise, consider the time that is involved in the food preparation and have a plan for action.

Decide how you want the food to be served.

Be creative on this part! Using specialty linens, décor, colorful foods, pretty glassware, etc. can make the food table setup something to talk about!

Consider cleanup.

Is the food you are serving going to take a lot of cleanup? It is important to consider this part as well and it may influence your decision.

Wedding Colors

When choosing your wedding colors it is important to consider your location, time of year, and which flowers are in season. These factors will determine how hard or easy it will be to implement your wedding colors.

Where to add your wedding colors: invitations, cake, party favors, flowers, guest book, wedding décor, and attire.

Invitations: your invitation is the first indication to your guests what your event is going to be like, whether formal or casual and the color schemes of the event. You can add your wedding colors by the clothes being worn in the pictures on the invitation, the font color, by layering colorful cards, or with damask/swirl designs in the chosen colors.

Flowers and Décor: between your centerpieces and other décor it will be easy to incorporate your wedding colors. Flowers come in almost all shades of every color, but you can also use fabric, feathers, beads, and ribbons to embrace your colors.

Wedding Cake: whether by polka dots, flowers, stripes, or just the icing itself, it is easy to add your wedding colors to you cake. You can also include your wedding colors in what food is being served.

Attire: although most commonly the bride’s gown is white or ivory, you can also add color to the bride by tying a sash around the waist. Wearing colored jewelry and shoes is a fun way to add color and it can create an opportunity for great pictures. Often color is brought into the wedding party by the colored ties, bridesmaid’s dresses, and the flowers being used for boutonnières etc.

Often when it starts getting cold, many believe that the wedding season has ended. In Utah, wedding season is all year round!

Color Scheme:
During the fall season, taking advantage of the fall colors in your wedding decor can turn out beautifully!
Colors of the season include fall reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and rust. You can also add a touch of metallics – gold, copper, bronze – for an added twist to the color scheme.

Decor:

Some of the flowers in season for the fall include: sunflowers, roses, daisies, and mums. Incorporating leaves, pumpkins, wheat, and acorns can add texture to your decor.

Wedding Dress:

Going ivory or off-white with lace for your wedding would nicely go with a Autumn color scheme.

Location:

In Utah, an outside wedding for the fall is a risky possibility.
An indoor wedding is a safe but still pretty alternative at Castle Manor. We have three indoor rooms available. Our smallest room can seat dining for 102-110 people, and our largest room can seat dining for as many as 400 people. Therefore, we can accommodate groups of all sizes.
If doing an outdoor event, consider using portable heaters, canopy tents, or a gazebo.

The cake- whether simple or extravagant, the wedding cake is a focal point for your décor. Make sure you have everything planned for cutting the cake and serving it to your guests.

Décor- really adds the extra touch to any event. Centerpieces are a necessity to create a complete style to your tables. Sashes are an excellent way to add elegance and color either on the tables as runners or tied onto the chairs.

Photographer- at the end of the day, the pictures is something that will help you remember your wonderful day. Make sure you get a photographer that matches your style and understands your needs.

An outside wedding can be a great alternative to your traditional inside wedding.

10 Tips for a Successful Outdoor Wedding:

1. Decorations- Outside creates a perfect background for any event. Make sure you still include possibly an arch, lights/lanterns, or extra flowers to accent the natural beauty!

2. Have a backup plan- Weather, especially in Utah, can be unpredictable. Always have a backup plan just in case the weather prevents you from doing your outdoor event.

3. Plan for Wind- It can only take a slight wind to create movement. Make sure everything is secure enough that nothing will fall, break, or get ruined.

4. Electricity- Double check where electricity is available. This will be helpful when planning your layout. It is best to avoid using an excess of extension cords.

5. Can everybody hear- Make sure to test the sound on any audio/video that you will be using during your ceremony or reception.

6. Make things tasty outside- Make sure that the foods you will be serving will handle well outdoors in the heat. Avoid things containing mayonnaise or dishes that should be served cold.

7. Keep your guests hydrated- If you are serving anything from soda to alcohol; remember that those beverages can be dehydrating. Be sure to have plenty of ice and water around.

8. Bugs- Be sure to put out something to control the bugs. Things such as citronella candles or a bug zapper will help avoid guests from being bothered by pesty bugs.

9. Sun Sun Sun- Consider timing your outdoor wedding to avoid parts of the day where the sun is bright and hot. Possibly plan for a time around sunset or consider your shade options.

10. Permits- If doing a wedding in a city park, be sure to ask about rules concerning trash removal, candle or torch lighting, and photography.

The 1st floor North side is one of our smaller areas. It is conveniently located to the right of the main entrance. This area can accommodate wedding luncheons up to 90 or a reception with 6 reception tables.

It is not too early to start thinking about spring weddings. The featured wedding incorporated the south side area with the gazebo for their ceremony. This ceremony is seated for 200. Following the ceremony the luncheon and reception were held in the chapel area.
